20+ Bible Verses about Gratitude

Over the past couple of weeks, I have focused a lot on bringing together helpful and fun fall resources for our homeschooling activities (click the following link to discover a list of “Fall Bucket List Ideas for Families” or this one about “Free Printable Fall Worksheets for Kids”). With that said, as we move into the holiday season, I have been thinking about different ways to bring hearts of thankfulness and praise into our daily life. In our homes, it is way too easy to live in a state of discontentment as we dream of the next phase of life. Maybe you have one child, and you dream of the day you will have more. Perhaps you live in a small rental home and simply cannot wait to be in your dream home that you are saving up to build. Alternatively, maybe you have only begun homeschooling and are already dreaming of the days when your kids are old enough to work through their lesson plans on their own or even walk down the aisle to receive their diploma.

Something I am learning in this season of my life is that each season we are in has elements of change and transition.

In every season of life, it can be easy to dream of the next, but, when I do that, I tend to miss the beauty of the season I am in and even take for granted those things I prayed for in the last season I was in.

With all of that said, I thought it would be neat to consider Bible verses about gratitude, thankfulness, and praise. Interestingly, the word gratitude is not found in the Bible, but the concept is, of course. That said, these verses would be so special to incorporate into our morning baskets or simply into our family devotions as we seek to find contentment and hearts of praise in whatever season we find ourselves.

A beautiful, brown Holy Bible filled with verses

If you have older kids who are able to memorize passages at a time, or if you would like to memorize a few passages yourself, here are several more lengthy passages that I thought were so encouraging and simply beautiful, Bible verses about gratitude, praise, and a thankful heart.

Passages

1 Chronicles 16:7-15

Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the Lord into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.

8 Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.

10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.

11 Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.

12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

13 O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

14 He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.

15 Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;

Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

19 Quench not the Spirit.

20 Despise not prophesyings.

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
