Make Valentine’s Day Special for Your Kids

In a world that glorifies Valentine’s Day as a holiday only for those who have a significant other, my mom always made Valentine’s Day a holiday that was special for all of us. It was a day to celebrate love of all kinds whether that be between family members or friends. It did not have to be limited to a romantic love which made it special for all of us when we were younger. She would put together special little gift baskets for us with candy. It was a simple and sweet way to remind us that she loves us.

So, how do we make it special for the littles? Here is a roundup of ideas I found after doing some research! Though most of these ideas are not very expensive at all, each of these ideas are fun and special, and they create opportunities to make Valentine’s Day special through a little time and thoughtfulness for the little people in our lives.

1. Create a special note/Valentine just for them.

So many cute ideas for this one! There are several different directions you can go with making your own Valentines, but you can also purchase them if that is a better option for you. Honestly, I think just writing a note and having some cute stickers on it can also be a great option since, in this case, it really is the thought that counts.

With that said, here are a few ideas I found if you do not just want to buy them 🙂

– Butterfly Lollipops: Skip to My Lou

How cute are these butterfly Valentines! I think little girls would love these:) If you click the picture, there is a link to a free printable on the site which makes this little craft simple and pretty easy!

– Glowsticks: Eighteen25

If you are looking for a Valentine that does not involve candy, this one may be a great option. I have enjoyed glowsticks since I was a kid and think these Valentines are so cute! I’m sure your kids would have some fun with the glow sticks, as well 🙂

– Superhero: Little Bit Funky

These Valentines would be a sweet option if your little boys like super heroes! This site has the directions for several of the more popular heroes along with a set of step-by-step instructions for making each of these cute little Valentines:) It also includes tootsie pops as did the previous one which gives you the option to make some for your little girls and boys with the same candy!

– Footprints: Ms. Fultz’s Corner

I have a soft spot for little crafts like this one! They are so sweet and sentimental and act as a keepsake for years to come. Honestly, I think this Valentine would be so adorable for family members, especially for grandparents.

2. Make some Valentine’s sweet treats.

Once again, there are so many ideas for this point! From cookies and cake pops to snack mix and candy, we have a lot of options. After looking around, I gathered together some of my favorite ideas, here. Let me know which ones look fun to you!

– Snack mix: Family Food on the Table

I really like that this snack mix uses the dried strawberries which seems like a great option for the littles. It also is so colorful which I like:)

– Chocolate covered Oreos: Happiness is Homemade

Aren’t these Oreo pops cute! I love that it is a creative, simple spin on cake pops. There are a lot of ways that these treats could be made different in creative ways. Not only are Oreo pops fairly easy, these little desserts just look really fun and sweet:)

– Sugar cookies: The Baker Chick

These sugar cookies are so pretty! I think this project would be really fun with older girls who enjoy baking:) This sugar cookie recipe includes raspberry and lemon flavors along with this beautiful ombré icing design. Honestly, I would love to attempt these sweet cookies, myself. Also, random side note, I would like to extend a shoutout to The Baker Chick for a beautiful website, as well!

3. Add a few fun decorations to your home.

Last up is decorations. Now, let me clarify by saying that I am not the kind of person who decorates for every holiday that comes along. I do not think that spending the time and money is practical or realistic on a yearly basis. With that said, I think there are little things we can do to make the holidays a little more special for our families. Casey Leigh Wiegand is one of the most amazing people I know for being able to create a special atmosphere in her home for her and her little family. Here is a picture from one of her Valentine’s Day posts linked here.

Additionally, here is another example of simple, sweet Valentine’s Day décor. This one is a beautiful banner by Simple as That that can be made and customized however you like! This banner would be adorable in a schoolroom or near a bookshelf.

And here is one last picture for Valentine’s Day decor inspiration:) This one is really neat since it can be replicated by our using things we already have around the house, things like a chalkboard or felt board and a picture frame that we simply change the picture in to corresponds with the holidays/seasons. This picture is from My Life on Kaydeross Creek!
