Hello, friends!

Happy summer! As of a few days ago, we are officially in the summer season even though it’s already been pretty hot for a good while. Here in AL where I live, we haven’t had any rain for a good bit and there isn’t much on the forecast which has made it even hotter, but it makes it feel like real summer, too, which is to be expected.

We have our family camp coming up which I’m really looking forward to. Summer is such a fun and sweet season with so many opportunities to make memories.

With that said, it seems like the other worksheet post compilations have been helpful to you all, so I thought I’d make a few more. Today’s post is for free tracing worksheets for preschool kids and kindergarten students to help them as they learn the names of the shapes and how to write them. Honestly, I think they’d be great for young learners who are not even officially in preschool yet. These free worksheets can help your students develop and practice fine motor control, pencil control, shape recognition, and other helpful skills.

Here are 15+ free printable shapes worksheets! Many of them are in a PDF format, but some of them are actually PNG files that can be downloaded (sometimes resized to fit, if needed) and printed from there.

Meet the Shapes Worksheet by Peace, Love, and First Grade (link HERE)

To start us off, this worksheet is more of a basic shapes page of reference for the rest of the worksheets, especially for the more unique shapes like a trapezoid or rhombus. It can be difficult to first learn shape recognition, but having a page that includes the correct name of each of the shapes can help develop the concept of shapes and can be a great way to level up the learning experience.

There are the little dotted lines that you could use for tracing, but I’d probably just print it to have on hand as you work through the shapes 🙂

Many of these free printable worksheets are going to be a little bit similar, but I wanted to give you several options so you can pick your favorite based on your own preferences and the needs of your child.

I thought this one was just nice and simple. I would use it to quiz your child on the name of the shape as they trace them.

Kindergarten Shapes Worksheets by Planning Playtime (link HERE)

This site is different from others since the worksheets are formatted as a picture instead of a PDF. To work through it, I would download the image and then print it at 175% size in order to make it fit a piece of paper right. Here’s another worksheet from the same site:

Here’s another from the same site 🙂

Triangle Color, Trace, and Find Worksheet
Triangle Color, Trace, and Find Worksheet by The Holly Dog Blog (link HERE)

This triangle shape worksheet is only one of many since this site has a whole little workbook of worksheets for the triangle. You simply have to scroll down to the tab that says “download,” and the PDF file will be saved straight to your downloads with this page and a whole bunch of other worksheets.

fun and free tracing lines worksheets

This worksheet is a good exercise for fine motor skills since the shapes are much smaller than some of the shapes in previous worksheets.

Trace & Draw Worksheet by Superstar Worksheets (link HERE)

Here we step up the difficulty level and ask our little learner to trace the shape and then draw it in the box next to it.

I liked this worksheet mainly because it has color and the cute, little smiley faces. I feel like a lot of worksheets are just black and white (which is helpful when you want to conserve colored ink), but it is nice to add in a little color every now and again!

Trace the Squares by Superstar Worksheets (link HERE)

Here’s a square tracing worksheet. It’s nice that this worksheet includes many different sizes of the shape.

Symmetry Worksheet by Superstar Worksheet (link HERE)

This worksheet may not exactly be considered one of the preschool shapes worksheets since it’s a little bit more advances, but I thought it was neat since it can help you introduce fractions as you explain that when you draw a line right down the middle of something, it is then divided into halves, and two halves make a whole.

Here’s another fun spin on a simple tracing worksheet since it slowly enables you to draw the whole shape on your own.

This worksheet is another that is just a picture that you must save to downloads and then print after. You may need to resize it to make sure it will fit the page well 🙂

Once again, I like the smiley faces in these free shape worksheets! They’re just happy and cute 😉

Here’s one of the diamond shape worksheets that I found 🙂

Trace and Color Shapes - Circle
Circle Worksheet by A1 Worksheets (link HERE)

I really liked this collection. I think these worksheets would be a good way to make sure that your child really does understand each of the shapes.

It’s also helpful because they have a whole collection with many different shapes. Here’s a link to their site: Shapes Worksheets

Trace and Color Shapes - Oval

Here’s another from that same site 🙂

Now that I have a baby of my own, I’m excited to be able to compile each of these worksheet collections to hopefully use later on. To be honest, I didn’t find quite as many tracing shapes worksheets as I thought I would, but I was happy with the ones I did find 🙂

It’s worth noting that a lot of these worksheets come from sites and collections that include the same kind of worksheet for many different shapes. I didn’t include all of the worksheets from each collection so as not to be redundant, but just know that there are more worksheets on several of the sites.

Like I said earlier, these worksheets would be great for preschool or kindergarten kids. These free shape tracing worksheets are for personal or classroom use. If you use them, I’d love to hear how your littles like them!

Well, that is it for now. I hope you are having a wonderful week so far! Stay cool and enjoy your summer 🙂
