It is Tuesday. Tuesdays are normally the day of the week that I teach most of my fiddle students. In general, it is a busier day for me. With that said, it is a lovely day of the week. It is not Monday, but it is still early enough in the week to make any adjustments that may be necessary. I do love Mondays, actually, since it is a day for me to regroup after our oftentimes busy weekends. On the other hand, Tuesdays are the days that are normally filled with a little more structure and predictability. It is a day that has the potential to be filled with beautiful things.

Earlier today, I saw something about “thankful Tuesday,” and I thought that was a sweet idea. Though every day is a great day to focus on the steadfast love of God and God’s goodness to us, it may be neat to really have a specific day of the week that we focus on having a thankful heart.

Over the years, I have found that being thankful is actually something that we have to be very intentional about. Our natural state is not thankful or content, especially when our circumstances may not be exactly what we want or expected. Through the different seasons of our life, there always seem to be some sort of unmet expectations that can rob us of our joy and thankfulness. Yet, in the Bible, we are reminded that in every season, regardless of our circumstance, we should learn to be content and even thankful.

To go along with that thought, I wanted to pull together a few thankfulness and thanksgiving quotes to help get our minds on these ideas.

“Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day.” – Robert Caspar Lintner (link HERE)

“Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.” – Henry Van Dyke (link HERE)

“If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get.” – Frank A. Clark (link HERE)

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” – William Arthur Ward (link HERE)

Additionally, here are a few Bible passages that deal with thankfulness and thanksgiving 🙂

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (Psalm 100 KJV)

“I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live…Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. The LORD preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling…O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.” (Ps. 116:1-2, 5-8, 16-17 KJV)

As I was considering writing this post, I thought about how David wrote the Psalms as prayers and songs to the Lord. I have found it to be such a sweet practice to read these Psalms as prayers. They are written so beautifully and so poetically. Another Scripture passage that can be prayed is the Lord’s Prayer. I would encourage you to do a study on this passage. It’s truly beautiful and so impactful.

Thankfulness and thanksgiving are powerful when put to practice in our day to day lives. With that in mind, I wanted to go ahead and write a few prayers that we can consider on this beautiful day, a thankful Tuesday prayer. Obviously, these prayers are simply ones that came from my heart and are not necessarily to be prayed verbatim. My hope is that these prayers and thoughts will inspire you to ponder and consider things that you can then communicate to the Lord for yourself. In some ways, maybe these prayers can be a starting point for you as you pour out your heart to the Lord.

God wants to hear from you. He has been so incredibly good to all of us, and, if you are His child, He wants to have a very personal relationship with you. His love is so incredibly vast and wonderful.

The Most Important Prayer.

I think it is also important to say, here, that if you are not a child of God yet, you can be today. We are all born sinners. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…” We are all born with a debt of sin that we cannot pay, and the Bible also says that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). If we do not accept God’s gift of salvation and repent of our sins, we are doomed to pay for our sins in our own power which can only be done through death and an eternity in hell.

With all of that said, God does not want anyone to go to hell. Hell was not created for us; it was created for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). God created a plan of salvation when He sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to give His life on the cross in payment for our sins. Jesus paid our debt in full, and all we have to do is accept this payment. Romans 10:13 says,

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

It is truly as simple as that. In order to be saved, all you need to do is call upon the name of the Lord with a heart that truly wants God. You must be willing to turn from your sin to the Savior. He wants to save you, and He gave His all so that you can be. John 3:16 says,

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

My prayer is that these precious words from God will touch your heart and that you will turn from your sin, give your heart and life to God, and find a true reason to celebrate a “Thankful Tuesday.” If you have any questions about any of these verses or truths, please reach out to me. It would truly make my day to hear from you and be able to point you to the Savior!

That said, we will now consider a few different prayers that I hope will inspire you as you approach God’s throne with a thankful Tuesday prayer from your heart.

A Tuesday Morning Prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, good morning. On this beautiful Tuesday morning, I just want to thank You for a good night’s rest. It’s already a good day, a blessed morning, and I thank You for that. Dear Lord, it will likely be a very busy day today, but, in the midst of the busyness, I pray that you would remind me of Your goodness, Your great love, and infinite mercy. Show me the path today that You’d have me walk. May I not turn to the right hand or to the left hand as I seek to remain in Your perfect will.

On this new day, I’m reminded that Your mercies are also new every morning, dear Father, and I am so very thankful for that. In the stressful moments that come my way today, Lord, I pray that You would calm my heart and turn my eyes upward. In the quiet moments, may I be reminded of Your goodness and peace.

Lord, I’m working hard to reach my goals this week, but may I not forget to be content in this moment and hour. Remind me that though I am working to improve my world around me to the best of my ability, right here, in the center of Your will is the best place for me to be. I’m surrounded by Your blessings, and I do not take for granted the work of Your hands. Teach me to be content even as I work diligently and earnestly.

You are worthy, O Lord, of all my love and all my praise. I will seek Your face and do my best to bring honor and glory to Your name today. Thank You for this Tuesday. In Jesus’ name I pray it all, amen.

A Tuesday Evening Prayer.

Dear God, I thank you for a great Tuesday and for all the blessings You sent my way. My day was filled with good things and good work. I’m reminded tonight that work is a blessing, and that it is only through work that I can truly enjoy and experience rest.

Lord, I did not get all of the things done today that I would have liked, as is often the case. Nevertheless, in spite of that, I have had a blessed Tuesday. Tonight, I remember that I do not have to do anything to earn Your love or Your grace or your love. There is nothing that can separate me from Your love, and I am so very thankful for that.

As I get ready for bed, I pray that You would guard my heart and mind as I sleep. Please renew my strength through the night so that I may serve You better tomorrow. You are my King, my dearest friend, my strong tower, and my Father. I rest in Your strength, mercy and goodness tonight. Thank You for all that You have done for me and all that You are, Lord. In the holy name of Jesus I pray, amen.

A Tuesday Prayer for the Homeschool Mom.

Dear Heavenly Father, on this special day, I would like to pray for the homeschool mom who may feel very overwhelmed today. I know that at the beginning of the week, it can be difficult to get back into routine after the weekend, especially when babies are tired. With that in mind, I pray that You would prepare the way today before her. Please fill her with the grace of God and Your strength. I pray that she and her family would all have good health and a grateful heart. May the peace of Christ rule in their hearts and minds, today.

Lord, I know that it can feel like there are not enough hours in the day for her to get everything done that she would like to, but in the midst of the chaos, I pray that she would see that it is not her strength upon which she needs depend, but upon Yours. May she see that, though she may not be enough, You are. Her strength, peace, joy, and fulfillment can only come from you, Lord.

On this Tuesday, I pray that you would give her a blessed day. May her hours be filled with the peace of God. Sweet Holy Spirit, may You be very real to her today and give her all she needs. It’s in Jesus’ name I ask it, amen.

A Thankful Tuesday Prayer for the Homeschool Students.

Dear Lord, I come to You today with a heart of thanks. As this new day begins, I’d like to pray for the homeschool students. Lord, I know that homeschooling can be challenging at times. There are sometimes struggles when concepts can be difficult to understand. Other times, it can feel like being behind in school is simply a part of life. With all of that in mind, I pray that you would give the homeschool students perseverance and patience with themselves and their parents. Show them that homeschooling is a gift to treasured.

Homeschooling is not easy. I pray that you would give the homeschooling family strength and endurance as they press towards the mark and seek to do Your will in their lives.

Lord, help them to be thankful. Help the homeschooling students to see the privilege they have been given. They are in a controlled, safe environment. May they see that their parents are doing their best to give them a high quality education free from so many of the stresses that fill the lives of so many students today. Though their homeschool is not perfect or easy, it is still a gift and a privilege that should not be taken for granted. Show them how much they are loved and help them rest in their current circumstances. I pray all this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Do not get me wrong, I do not claim that any of these specific prayers would necessarily be a “solution” to a bad day. Nevertheless, there is power in a daily prayer, and powerful morning prayers can get us through our days with much more joy and peace if we choose to seek God’s face, read God’s Word, and turn to the great throne of God in our stressful moments. Showing thankfulness whether through breathing a thankful Tuesday prayer or through writing a prayer full of gratitude in a journal can truly change your perspective and help you approach your circumstance with a changed heart. He is ready and able to answer our prayers if we will only ask Him and seek Him. God’s presence and God’s goodness are very real. He is worthy of it all!

I hope that these prayers have been an inspiration to you and that they will draw you closer to God today. This week, I encourage you to say a thankful Tuesday prayer. He’s still God and He’s still good.

Until next time
